Video Of The Day: Simian Mobile Disco

Dance duo, Simian Mobile Disco, have released a new music video for their upcoming record, Unpatterns--out May 14th via Wichita. The music video is for the track, "Cerulean," which is nearly seven minutes long. As you'd think, the music video focuses on color, not necessarily on cerulean, per se, but on the whole spectrum we come in contact with on a daily basis. The video is animated and features a circle manifesting itself in different colors and playing with shapes, as if it were going through a maze. Although the concept is quite simple, it's definitely an interesting concept to sit through. Watch it below.

Spring Break Guide: Las Vegas

Derrik Chinn, travel planner extraordinaire and owner of Tijuana tour company, Turista Libre curated six Spring Break guides for Made to Last. He is our featured guest blogger and is giving tips and tricks for all of the hottest Spring Break destinations. This week we are featuring Las Vegas.

Las Vegas

When visiting Vegas it's a given you'll do the shows, the clubs and the casinos, and by the end of your trip you'll probably feel like you've walked the Strip more than Temptest Storm, the town's famed 80-year-old stripper. But over planning the obvious makes it too easy to accidentally miss out on all the Sin City gems that don't throw themselves at you: bacon martinis, showgirl diners, real-life Mario Kart, 855-foot free falls and a post-apocalyptic Pee-Wee's Playhouse.

Neon graveyard. A refuge for decommissioned exhibits of a quintessential Las Vegas art: the ever bright, the ever shiny neon sign. The Neon Museum's collection currently tops 150 specimens from long-gone Las Vegas motels, businesses, casinos and resorts that date from the 1930s to the '90s, piled and propped up around the grounds in what may very well be the world's most kaleidoscopic bone-yard. Drop-in visits are a no-go; call in advance to arrange a tour. neonmuseum.org.

The ultra-lounge that Old Vegas built. At the Peppermill Restaurant and Fireside Lounge, faux foliage falls from the mirrored ceiling, fire pits serve as floor plan centerpieces, and pink and purple neon soak the air. If this "ultra-lounge" looks like the Vegas you came to know and love via "Showgirls," the 1995 campy cult classic about a stripper's rise to become the town's star dancer, that's because it is. Scorsese's "Casino," too. The place serves its old-school diner fare in hungry-man portions and a pours its roster of classic cocktails with the professional drinker in mind. peppermilllasvegas.com

Pinned in time. Row after row of some 400 predecessors to Atari fill the 10,000 square foot Pinball Hall of Fame, an homage to the Jurassic period of arcade games that randomly sits right across the street from the Liberace Museum. Among owner and pinball devotee Tim Arnold's collection spans the latter half of the 20th century. All are in working order, not even the rarities are off limits and most cost a quarter to play. pinballmuseum.org.

Check out the Pinball Hall of Fame

The golden grill. Another iconic nugget of vintage Vegas dating back to 1958, Golden Steer Steak House claims to be the oldest steak house in town. Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley and the Rat Pack tore through T-bones, shrimp scampi and Caesar salads prepared table side between these wood paneled walls in their own private semi-circle booths. And surely many of their impersonators continue doing the same. goldensteersteakhouselasvegas.com.

Sounds extreme. More than 20 bands on four stages, 65 pro BMX dirt jumpers and 200 amateurs are set to raid Desert Breeze Park for the 11th annual Extreme Thing Fest, happening Saturday, March 31. Billed as Nevada's largest action sports and music festival and cosponsored by Alternative Press, the one-day event includes the Vegas Am Jam, an amateur competition of 200 BMXers and skateboarders, a stage dedicated to specifically to local bands and, if that weren't enough to swallow, a side of pro wrestling. The 2012 lineup is still in the works, but last year's headliners included Hollywood Undead, Sum 41 and P.O.D. extremefest.com.

Surviving the Stratosphere. Leave it to Vegas to stock its vacant roofs with million-dollar fixes for adrenaline junkies, like the top of the 108-story Stratosphere Casino. It's home to a compact daredevil amusement park, with rides like Skyjump -- an 855-foot free fall, the highest on the planet -- that will make many macho-macho men break a cold sweat. X-Scream tips upward and downward 27 feet over the building's edge in a monster one sided teeter-totter. Insanity, a giant claw that sits two per each of its four prongs, pivots out over the edge and opens to a 70-degree angle before spinning at three Gs. The view alone -- aimed downward at downtown Vegas -- is worth losing your lunch.

Go for a thrill ride on the Stratosphere Tower

The punk saloon. It's just a block away from the Hard Rock, but this place looks, sounds and smells like the real house of hardcore punk, garage, ska, surf, psycho-billy and cow-punk. Home of bacon martinis and famed concoction dubbed "ass juice" that's served in a shot glass shaped like a toilet, the Double Down Saloon never charges cover for its shows and never closes. Which is probably why they offer $20 "lightweight insurance." You yack, you mop. House rules. doubledownsaloon.com.

Pool parties. It's a fact of Vegas life. The party starts at the pool, the party ends at the pool. Your waterlogged itinerary: Ditch Fridays at the Palms, Wet Republic Saturdays at MGM and Rehab Sundays at Hard Rock. Bag tickets online in advance. ditchfridays.com, wetrepublic.com, rehablv.com.

The big mini chase. Rolling Stone called the Mini Baja Chase Sin City's best near-death experience: a 30-minute version of the notorious SCORE Baja 1000 desert race in which you're strapped behind the wheel of a dune buggy, speeding over a 15,000-acre open desert course of dunes, valleys, washed-out creek beds, doing all you can to outrun the expert Dune driver in front of you. sunbuggy.net.

Where Has Your AE Been - Italy and France

Kate G., a recent University of Arizona grad, spent her Spring 2011 semester studying abroad in Orvieto, Italy. Before she left, her parents gave her an AE Leather Jacket for Christmas which she rocked all over Europe. While in Italy she rode bikes in Chianti, walked through the ruins of Pompeii, hiked through old towns and villages in Cinque Terre and Positano, learned to make tiramisu, and saw the Pantheon, Vatican and Sistine Chapel.

Kate wore her AE leather jacket, AE jeans, and brown AE flats while exploring Positano, Italy.

Spring Break Guide: Miami

Derrik Chinn, travel planner extraordinaire and owner of Tijuana tour company, Turista Libre curated six Spring Break guides for Made to Last. He is our featured guest blogger and is giving tips and tricks for all of the hottest Spring Break destinations. This week we are featuring Austin, Texas..

Miami

When talking up Miami, with its ivory beaches, taut beach bodies, eternally tepid ocean temps and urban patchwork of sun-bleached pastels, what's to be said for the palmy oasis that simultaneously serves as home sweet home for Univision telenovela stars, countless Midwestern grandmothers and Brooke Hogan? Lil' Kim's poignant epiphany arguably wins:

"You can't come to Miami and not show any skin. You gotta show something. If you're all covered up in this heat, you're gonna make me pass out just to look at you."

She's right. What can we say. There's no way we're topping that. Bienvenido a Miami.

Beach breakdown. South Beach is for showing off your all those hours you've been clocking at the gym. Bill Baggs comes with an optional side of history via the nearby 1825 lighthouse. Virginia Key is easily accessible but spotted with secluded spots. North Beach, South Beach and Surfside are for surfing. Haulover Beach is for birthday suits.

South Beach's Art Deco District. The first 20th century neighborhood to make the National Register of Historic Places, more than 800 architectural gems -- mostly hotels -- dating to the 1920s, '30s and '40s are spread over some 30 blocks, from Fifth Street to the south and Dade Boulevard to the north. Walking tours depart the welcome center (1200 Ocean Drive) daily. mdpl.org.

South Beach's Art Deco District

Coral Castle. No one's really sure how a 5-foot, 100-pound hermit carved more than 1,000 tons of oolite limestone into his own personal palace using only homemade hand tools. When asked how he managed to move the massive stones, the largest of which weighs in at 30 tons, Edward Leedskalnin claimed to know the secrets used to build the pyramids, and that accomplishing such a feat isn't "difficult if you know how." He died in 1951, long before anyone could coax him into a "Single-handed Megastructures For Dummies" book deal. The castle, 25 miles south of Miami, remains one of America's unexplainable architectural marvels. coralcastle.com.

Venetian swim party. Pretend you're in Caesar's bathtub at this 820,000-gallon pool in Coral Gables. Carved out of a coral rock quarry in 1923, the grottoes, pillars, waterfalls and other nods to Mediterranean architecture have it on par with a Roman temple. But what's really heavenly at a high-traffic like this is that all 820,000 gallons are filled and drained daily with fresh spring water from a subterranean aquifer.

The Venetian Pool at Coral Gables

Fruity spice. Buy your mom something nice at the Fruit & Spice Park in Homestead, a 37-acre mega-garden that grows 500 fruits, vegetables, spices, herbs, nuts and exotic edibles (i.e. things you never knew you could actually eat but it turns out you can, which isn't to say you'd necessarily actually want to). Open to the public and the only one of its kind in the U.S., the park's mango department, appropriately dubbed Mango Row, harvests 160 varieties of the fruit alone. fruitandspicepark.org.

Alligator Dundee. More than 2,000 Everglades Alligator Farm, southern Florida's oldest reserve of its kind. Located on the edge of the Everglades National Park, the farm offers in-house shows and group hovercraft tours through the wetlands. Get over your herpetophobia with baby gator show-and-tell, finally figure out the difference between alligators and crocodiles (the Everglades are the only place on the planet where both are found in the wild), and save some shock and awe for the grand finale: feeding time.

After dark. Body warehouse Club Space and Cameo, a renovated cinema, both play host to DJ superstars. Even though it's been around since 1926, Mac's Club Deuce, with its neon-pink naked lady lights and two-for-one, early-morning drink specials, is a fresh breath of dive bar stank in South Beach's increasingly bottle-service-only zone. Bocce ball and $1 beers are at Jimbo's, a semi-hidden band of shacks on Virginia Key that sounds on par with drinking in papaw's rec room.

Dance the night away at Cameo

Deco rates. It's not every day you find yourself in a vintage Art Deco mecca such as Miami, nor is it every night you have the chance to sleep under its roof. More than 10 hotels scatter the district, most of which date to the mid-1930s but underwent renovations in the later half of the 20th century. The five-story Clevelander totes a poolside bar and a rooftop lounge. The Park Central often housed Hollywood glitterati like Clark Gable and Rita Hayworth. The Raleigh Hotel pool is no stranger to fame either, having logged silver screen moments with Esther Williams in the '40s and in the '90s airtime on MTV's The Grind. clevelander.com, theparkcentral.com, raleighhotel.com.

Lana Del Ray Releases Video for "Blue Jeans"

Pop songstress Lana Del Rey has released the official music video for the track, "Blue Jeans." The video sees Del Rey in black and white shots where she swims alongside her love interest. Catch the video below. The track is from her debut album, Born To Die, which is out now via Interscope.
