New Release: The Postelles

After much anticipation and a misadventure with a major label, The Postelles' eponymous debut album will be released by +1 Records on June 7th. The record, co-produced by band and The Strokes' Albert Hammond, Jr., exudes a raw exuberance that places the New York City-based quartet in an ideological lineage that can be traced back to such 50's and early 60's icons as Buddy Holly and Sam Cooke and winds all the way through The Velvet Underground, the Ramones, Blondie and the Walkmen – artists with disparate sensibilities but a common allegiance to the unabashedly unadorned rock song.

Formed in high school, The Postelles – comprising Daniel Balk (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), David Dargahi (vocals/lead guitar), John Speyer (bass) and Billy Cadden (percussion) – were playing shows around Manhattan by the time they were seniors. Along the way, they ran into Albert Hammond, Jr., who provided encouragement and co-produced their debut EP, White Night. The EP created a buzz both in the States and in the U.K., where influential Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe began playing the title track. Soon they were touring with the likes of The Kills, Vampire Weekend, The Wombats and Jack Penate, playing major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo (twice) and CMJ and performing at The Who Tribute Concert at New York City's Carnegie Hall. Seeking to capture the energy of their live shows on their full-length album, they headed back into the studio with Hammond in 2010.

Then – just before their scheduled album release show at the Bowery Ballroom – they were unceremoniously dropped by their label. Undeterred, The Postelles played to a sold-out crowd at the Bowery and went on to tour with Kings of Leon, Interpol, Free Energy and even recently supported the legendary Chuck Berry at a St. Louis show. They inked a deal with +1 Records, the indie label that introduced you to The Morning Benders and The Heavy, and recorded one new track, "Sound the Alarms," for the collection, which has also been remastered.

Stay tuned…Tour Dates will be announced soon!
