Thursday Pick: 'Running Up That Hill (Make a Deal With God)'

Our Thursday Personal Pick is from Samantha Feld Samuelson at Filter Magazine. Samantha celebrated her wedding last weekend and is currently on her honeymoon. Congratulations, Samantha!

Today’s pick is inspired by my first dance at my wedding last weekend. I’ve always had a serious obsession with The Chromatics and the sultry voice of the lead singer. Nothing tops their cover of Bruce Springstein’s I’m On Fire…except for maybe their cover of Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill (Make A Deal With God).

New Video from James Pants “Clouds Over The Pacific”

James Pants has been a drummer for most of his life (and a virtuoso jazz drummer at that). The scene that inspires James Pants exists solely in his head, and sometimes David Lynch's. Both men have spent plenty of time living in Spokane, Washington, and found muse in a fictional television town a few miles east. "It's that Twin Peaks sound," James Pants says of his Self-Titled LP also known as The Red Album. "More noise and wailing guitars." The album was released May 3rd, 2011 through Stones Throw. In celebration of the new LP James Pants has dropped a music video for album cut "Clouds Over The Pacific" at Gorilla vs. Bear and Altered Zones today, directed by the proprietor of celestial visuals and one of the founders of New Age music, Iasos.

Where Has Your AE Been? Argentina & Thailand

My name is Cassie and I am on the Social Media Marketing team at American Eagle in Pittsburgh. Traveling is my second love after fashion and social media. I have worked for American Eagle for almost 5 years in some capacity or the other (store associate, visual lab store associate, and now, in the marketing department!) so my wardrobe is comprised heavily of American Eagle and Aerie!

I've traveled to over 20 countries and studied abroad twice, so my AE has seen a lot of parts of the world. Since this is our inaugural 'Where Has Your AE Been?', I thought I would share some examples with you!

This first picture was taken at the Grand Palace in Bangkok, Thailand, where the royal family of Thailand lives. This picture was taken in April 2009 when I was on spring break from my university in Hong Kong. I'm wearing a black American Eagle dress that was honestly, probably from 2007 when I started working at an AE store.

This second picture is from a town near Buenos Aires, Argentina, called Tigre. Jaguars were hunted there early in Tigre's history, thus how it got it's name. Tigre is a weekend-getaway spot for many people in Buenos Aires because it is along a river and has an amazing open market. I was in Argentina in May and June of 2009 visiting my roommate, who had also studied abroad in the Spring of 2009. I'm wearing AE Skinny Jeans in Authentic Light Wash, which have been all over the world with me and still hang in my closet in Pittsburgh today.

Have you taken your AE around the world too? Let us know! Submit your picture to social@ae.com and you may be featured in next week's 'Where Has Your AE Been?'!

Wilco’s The Whole Love is Out Today!

After seven studio albums, various collaborations and countless days on the road over the past 15 years, Wilco tried something new before starting work on its eighth record, The Whole Love: The Chicago band took a vacation. Staying off stage for most of the latter half of 2010 was the longest break from touring that bandleader Jeff Tweedy has had in a career stretching back more than 20 years.

The result is 12 stunning songs that showcase Wilco in a new light, on bold rockers, somber acoustic ballads and punchy pop songs, bookended by the propulsive 7-minute opener “Art of Almost”, and a meditative 12-minute closing track, “One Sunday Morning (song for Jane Smiley’s boyfriend).”

Tweddy produced The Whole Love with Sanson and Tom Schick (Rufus Wainwright, Norah Jones, Ryan Adams). The singer describes a deeply collaborative process as the musicians worked together to shape Tweedy’s songs into reflections of their considerable talents.

M83 - "Hurry Up, We're Waiting"

M83 (aka Anthony Gonzalez) will release his epic new double album, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming on October 18, 2011. Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, The Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and including contributions from Brad Laner (from 90’s band Medicine) on guitar, Saturdays=Youth vocalist Morgan Kibby, and guest vocalist Zola Jesus, Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming is a double-album journey that takes us to the horizon and introduces us to new landscapes.

M83 fans have the opportunity to hear and download the first single, “Midnhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gifight City”. The humid, adrenaline-driven dreamlike track is unlike anything we have heard from M83 in the past. “Midnight City” adeptly sweeps you through abandoned concrete streets swimming in broken neon light. Visit the M83 SoundCloud page to check out “Midnight City” and stream the remixes.
