Silversun Pickups Release Neck Of The Woods On May 8th

Silversun Pickups

LA alt-rock quartet, Silversun Pickups, is set to release their latest album after three years Neck Of The Woods, due out May 8. The band saw massive success with their 2009 album Swoon with radio hits like "The Royal We" and "Panic Switch" which also appeared in several popular video games. Silversun Pickups is set to perform from the Jimmy Kimmel Live! outdoor stage on their upcoming records release date, May 8. Their new single "Bloody Mary (Nerve Endings)" from the new album is a cocktail of modern and retro sound, but still retains the same style that we grew to love with their first single "Lazy Eye" in 2006. This Summer Silversun Pickups will make appearances at festivals such as Sasquatch and have announced various tour dates along the West Coast for 2012 and 2013.

May 25: Sasquatch Festival - Gorge Amphitheater (George WA)
June 1: Kjee Summer Round-Up - Santa Barbara Bowl (Santa Barbara CA)
July 14: Edgefest 2012 (Toronto ON)

Employee Profiles: Footwear Buyer Laura K.

Have you checked out's footwear section lately? If you haven't, you are definitely missing out.'s footwear offerings have been completely overhauled in recent months by Men's & Women's Footwear and Accessories Buyer for online, Laura K. and her fabulous team. We spoke with Laura about her background at AE, her favorite shoe trends, and more.

Laura K., Men's and Women's Footwear and Accessories Buyer

How did you get your start as a buyer?
I actually started at American Eagle allocating skirts and dresses to all the stores. After a year I switched over to the team and started as an assistant buyer for Aerie. Then I moved to Women's AE and 77kids for a couple years. I most recently got moved to Men's and Women's Footwear & Accessories to start growing the online exclusive footwear assortment with AE branded footwear and really cool additional brands [Minnetonka, BC Footwear, and Timberland for example] that complement American Eagle clothes. Basically I’ve worked in every department across all brands except for Men’s apparel which I am going to have to do so I can say I've done it all! I have been at AE since I graduated college, so six years...time flies when you’re having fun!

What is a typical day for you like?
No day is like any other day. We manage all four seasons at once, so that can sometimes be tricky!  Right now it’s about to be summer and we are buying our Holiday assortment, crazy right?  I meet with my team to see how business is doing and react to sales, and I go to loads of marketing and merchandising meetings.

What is your go-to, everyday shoe?
I feel like I wear booties year round, so that is my go-to shoe. You can wear them with jeans, skirts, dresses, shorts  - you name it. When we were in New York earlier this week, so many girls walking the streets had booties on. They are the most easy to wear trend right now.

AE Western Heeled Bootie, one of Laura's top picks.

Have you always loved shoes?
I’ve always loved shoes but being in this position has made me want to buy more shoes than I ever could have imagined. I used to have just one footwear organizer in my closet and now it has tripled. When you spend all your time looking at trend in a particular category, it opens your eyes to all of the amazing style that is out there.

If you weren’t a shoe buyer, what would you be doing?
I would want to be an interior designer. My passion outside of work is making my space at home the most comfortable and inviting place for me. When you travel all the time, it’s good to have a great space to come home to.

Laura's passion - decorating her home!

Besides fashion, what are your other hobbies or interests?
Probably trying new restaurants. Pittsburgh has a top 25 restaurant list and I have a goal to hit up all those different places by the end of the year. When I travel, I always look at where the best places to go and try different restaurants. If one of my friends was visiting Pittsburgh, I would take them to Dish, Avenue B, Salt of the Earth, Girasole, Seviche, Kaya, or The Porch.

Where are you headed to for vacation this summer?
Actually, Friday (tomorrow) I am headed to Vegas for my friend’s bachelorette party. From there I am going to LA, road trippin’it up the California coast to see Big Sur. Then we will be in San Fransisco on Thursday and more of my friends are flying in from all over for another bachelorette party. After that we are going to Napa for the weekend. It’s a total girls getaway and I’m going to need to pack some 5-hour energy, Advil and some killer shoes to make for an epic trip!

Ash Koley - "Mary The Inventor" (American Eagle Outfitters Exclusive Premier)

Ash Koley
AE is excited to premier the video for "Mary The Inventor" from their debut album 'Inventions.' The Canadian Alt-Pop duo Ash Koley are set to release their debut album, Inventions, on May 8th. Check out the video below.

Singer Ash Koley and producer/songwriter Phil Deschambault began their musical collaboration in 2004, when the two self-proclaimed nerds from Winnipeg were introduced by a mutual acquaintance. Phil was looking for a singer who could relate to his sound, and Ash’s velvety voice did just that. Together, their sound is an amalgamation of diverse influences, from Abba to the Eurythmics, and from Peter Gabriel to Radiohead. The result is a band that is a full embodiment of what they each bring to the duo – quirky charm and upbeat classic pop music.

Hot Chip Releases New Track

Hot Chip

Night And Day - the first single from Hot Chip’s forthcoming fifth LP, In Our Heads – is out today as single track download and June 4th on 12inch vinyl + digital bundle.  The single is a piece of classic Hot Chip weird, superfunk disco, driven by a menacing yet supremely danceable rubberized bassline.  It's the sound Prince would be making had he grown up just south of the Thames.  It's Zapp not Zappa.

The 12inch + digital download bundle will come with a remix from the 2 Bears featuring Trim as well as an exclusive b-side track entitled “Jelly Babies”.

Right the Stars Releases 'Hello Yes OK'

Hello Yes OK by Right the Stars

Right The Stars are like Phoenix meeting Keene backstage at a Paul Simon concert.

The band, a collaborative project with Rich Jacques as the centerpiece, brings together some of Los Angeles' most talented musicians to create an unabashedly feel-good indie-pop record.  The collaborative project was born with the track "We Got It All", a song co-written with Rob Giles and Guy Erez. The track lead Jacques to dive into a fuller and more band-centric pop sound which was starkly different from the troubadour mold he had been performing in for most of his career.  "I wanted to stretch beyond the limitations of just a guy with an acoustic guitar" says Jacques.
The self-titled debut for Right The Stars was released in 2010, however the project realizes its full potential with Hello Yes OK.  Drawing its title from three words which are universally understood throughout the world, Hello Yes OK is a delightful record with hooks piled upon hooks.  Creating a musical language which shares the same universality.

The mission of Right The Stars, Cousteau Records and New Power Media is to create a unique cutting edge music company which channels a portion of profits to support and sustain causes which empower children to reach their full potential in life.

Our Stuff, My Style Winners - The Girls

Our AE associates are seriously stylish and we wanted to give them the opportunity to show off their personal fashion sense. With that in mind, the Our Stuff, My Style contest was born.

Jenn H. and Rachel H., two of the winners from Our Stuff, My Style

This winter, we featured our 8 finalists. Four winners were voted on by AE employees. In February, the winners traveled to the AE Home Office in Pittsburgh for a photo shoot and to film an episode of AE TV (shown to AE store associates). This week we are featuring Jenn H. & Rachel H. Check back next Thursday for the guys!

Rachel H. from Redding, CA

Why did you decide to enter Our Stuff, My Style?
I've always wanted to be a model. It was a chance to win a modeling contest!

What is the best part of working at AE?
The lively, upbeat atmosphere. I've been working at AE since March 2011 - it's such a fun place to work. I really love the discounts and the clothes, too.

What is your dream job after AE?
I want to do something in the medical field - maybe physical therapy. But I would take being an AE model over that any day!

What are your favorite pieces from the Spring line and what is your favorite way to style them?
I love layering all the knit tops in bright colors.

What is your favorite fit of AE jeans?
Skinny jeans.

What is one thing you never leave the house without?
My cell phone and camera - I'm always taking pictures.

Jenn H. from Brighton, MI

Why did you decide to enter Our Stuff, My Style?
I was at a store meeting and the managers picked two names - one of them was mine!
What is the best part of working at AE?
The environment: the people are so friendly, it's like a family. It's just good energy. I've been working at AE since August 2011.

What is your dream job after AE?
I want to work for NASA. I'm going to college in the fall for Aerospace Engineering.

What are your favorite pieces from the Spring line and what is your favorite way to style them?
I love the neon trend. I like contrasting neons with neutral colors like grey or white.

What is your favorite fit of AE jeans?
I love the Jeggings. It's so rainy and salty because of the snow in Michigan so other jeans will drag on the ground.

What is one thing you never leave the house without?
My smile!

Who Makes the AE Store Playlists?

Ever wonder who creates the awesome playlists you hear while shopping in AE Stores? Today we have the answer for you. We sat down with Brad S., who manages the music program, to learn about how an in-store playlist is made.

Brad S. creates all the AE in-store playlists and the AE Pandora station.

What goes into making a playlist for AE?
I spend time looking at music blogs and music magazines to see what’s new that sounds like it will work for us. I also look at the Billboard charts to see what is popular and incorporate music that people will know. Our music partner also sends over lists each season of their recommendations. We go through a few rounds of edits to get it where we want it.

What is your background in music?
I’ve just always really liked music. I knew the guy who used to do this job. We had another girl, too. When she left, I jumped on it right away.

What is the coolest thing you have ever done with your job?
Just getting to travel – going to SXSW and Coachella this year. That’s probably the coolest part about it. I also work on seasonal brand videos and putting a song to that, so I work on getting suggestions and putting songs to the video.

What is the best concert you have ever been to?
I saw Paul McCartney a few years ago. Even though he’s older now, it was still pretty awesome. He played a lot of Wings and Beatles songs. SXSW is just a ton of fun and I’ve seen bands there before they’ve gotten big. This year I’m going to Coachella, which I’ve never been to. I saw this band Real Estate in a really small, dirty building a few months ago and they’re starting to get attention and they’re really good, so that’s cool.

What are some of your favorite songs?
This year:
Dirty Gold – California Sunrise
Lana Del Rey – Video Games
tUnE-yArDs – Gangsta
Guineafowl - Botanist
Arcade Fire – The Suburbs (how could you not?)

Talking Heads – This Must Be The Place (Na├»ve Melody)
Arrested Development – Everyday People
The Beatles – Norwegian Wood
LCD Soundsystem – All My Friends
MGMT – Time To Pretend

Besides music, what are your other hobbies?
I do some screen printing t-shirts. I have a small little line that I sell at a local store (Decade). I home brew beer in my kitchen. I made a great Christmas ale called “Santa’s Little Helper”. And I snowboard.

Where are you headed for vacation this summer?
I’ve been wanting to go to Burlington and Montreal, but those are probably better Winter trips. I want to try and start going to places I’ve never been before – maybe New Mexico or some islands. I love going to the beach anytime I can – down to Carolina.

What is your must-see spot in Pittsburgh?
If someone is coming to Pittsburgh, I would probably recommend Round Corner Cantina. They have really refreshing cocktails and great Mexican food, plus you can sit outside.

You have a really cute dog.
My dog’s name is Dugan. He’s half Dalmatian, half German Short-Haired Pointer. I wasn’t sure what he was when I got him because he was a rescue, so I got his DNA tested. Someone found him and tried to find the owner for a few months and couldn’t find it. I found him on Craigslist. He’s real friendly and laid back. He’s taking on his owner’s personality.
